Journey Zing

Sunday in Buenos Aires

A more or less quiet day, with less traffic and most stores closed [but not all]. Today after breakfast [which at Posada Palermo is enough to prevent one from eating for the rest of the day] we went to Palermo Viejo, which is a part of Palermo [the largest barrio in Buenos Aires] with smaller buildings [1-2 stories], many trees, cobblestones. Walked around and to Plaza Cortazar where there was a market in the square and small bars and cafes around the square. Enjoyed a beer there then we went to El Ateneo which is a fantastic bookstore. It’s actually a converted classic old-fashioned theater, the Grand Splendide. Built in the early 20th Century, rather than torn down it was converted into a bookstore to rival B&N or Borders in 2000. I found some CDs of Tango music to bring home. Then it started to rain, so we stopped and returned to our room to rest and finish this summary of today’s date.
