Alaska: The Kenai Penninsula

Mark & I are here in Alaska, he for business next week and me for photography.  We had an uneventful flight from DSM to Minneapolis and onto Anchorage then drove for the first night in a small town, Girdwood.  It’s a rustic little town but since it’s also a ski resort, plenty of restaurants [at the one we tried out, Double Musky Inn, the portions were huge [e.g. 16-20 oz steaks!].  Of course, we just had to have fresh Salmon from here and it was delicious, though the filets were also large.  The B&B we stayed at was very nice, great view of the mountains and comfortable.  Then we left and drove south for about 4 hours to Soldotna for our B&B for two nights, as a base of operations.  It’s a comfortable, modern [with internet] cabin on the shores of a small lake with all the amenities.  Yesterday we went through Soldotna’s museum and cooked a fresh salmon steak on the grill of the porch. Saturday we will travel down the penninsula to see Homer, Alaska.

The following is a rainbow which appeared as we drove to our lodging in Soldotna.

And just for the heck of it, another image, the view of the lake from our deck at night [however the sun really does not set – it’s hard to get used to sleeping with the sun out!]
