Another shot from the Arsenale = one of the lion sculptures guarding the doorway. There’s a great story about this in a book I recently purchased in that crazy bookshop with the gondola holding the books: there are runic inscriptions on the shoulder/arm of this Lion [I saw them, not sure they’re clear in the picture] which were inscribed on it by Vikings – the Lion was brought to Venice from Athens in 1687.
